Fushimi Inari Shrine is an important Shinto shrine which is located in Fushimi-Ku, Kyoto, Japan. This shrine is dedicated to Inari, the god of foxes and fertility. It is famous for its thousands of torii gates. The primary reason most foreign visitors come to Fushimi Inari Shrine is to explore its hiking trail which is covered by thousands of torii gates. The torii gates along the hiking trail itselves are the donations by companies or certain persons. You can find the donator's name and the date of the donation at the back of each gate.

You can also find many fox statues in Fushimi Inari Shrine, because foxes are thought to be Inari's messenger. These fox are holding a symbolic item in their mouths or beneath their front paws ( most often a key or a jewel ). The keys which were found in the fox mouths are keys to granaries

Fushimi Inari Shrine is located at the outside of JR Inari Station, the second station in Kyoto. The Shrine can also be reached in a short walk from Keihan Railway Fushimi Inari station.

Address: 68 Yabunouchi-cho, Fukakusa Fushimi-ku, Kyoto
